I've used the the ProCleanersNJ method exclusively, because I've been able to use it to restore carpets.
Which include Pretreatment, Raking,stain removal, steam cleaning & Shampooing, and finish with a deodorizer. I've experimented with, dry-foam, powder, and and found advantages and disadvantages with each. I am currently using a variation on the steam cleaning and shampooing method that incorporates some of the advantages of shampoo without the disadvantages.
